David Scheffel is a husband, father of three, and professor of anthropology at Thompson Rivers University.
Born in the Czech Republic, David and his family fled communism in 1968 as refugees, ending up in the Netherlands. David attended Cambridge University, Memorial University, the University of Manitoba, and McMaster University before settling in Kamloops.
He is the author of numerous, critically acclaimed scholarly articles and books, including Svinia in Black and White: Slovak Roma and Their Neighbours.
David's decades-long battle to improve life for the Slovak Roma is documented in the National Film Board documentary The Gypsies of Svinia.
